Syncing Draft Email Folders
Devices' email clients have different behavior with respect to draft messages than is commonly seen with the regular IMAP client. When a draft message is saved on the device, it is saved to a folder that is only stored on the phone, and is not subject to syncing back to the service. This local drafts folder can be seen, marked #1 in the screen shot below from an Apple device:
It's not clear what the intention behind this design was, but it might be driven by a concern that draft messages could be lost if they are saved to a server-side folder.
Note that the user's mailbox drafts folder however does sync, just like any other folder, and can be seen marked #2 in the screen shot above.
Therefore:
- messages saved as drafts on the desktop will be visible on the device, in the mailbox drafts folder, but it won't be possible to "send" them from the device (copy/paste the content into a new message to work around this limitation).
- Messages saved as a draft on the device will not be available on the desktop (send the partially composed message to yourself to work around this limitation).
