Nokia Questions

What types of Noika phone do you support?

We're not sure because there are a zillion different Nokia phones. The N900 is supported and anything that is using the 'S60' platform, and/or can run Nokia's 'Mail for Exchange' application should work. This includes popular smart phones such as the E61, N81, N82, N95 and N96.

Which Nokia devices have been seen using the service?

The N900 and these devices have used Nokia Mail For Exchange (MfE): 5320, 5800, 6110, 6120c, 6210, 6220c1, 6290, 6300, 6650, E50, E51, E60, E61, E61i, E62, E63, E65, E66, E70, E71, E71x, E90, N73, N76, N78, N79, N80, N81, N82, N85, N91, N95, N96.

How do I install 'Mail for Exchange' ?

On the N900, everything you need is installed by default. On other phones, visit this page: using your phone's browser. This URL should already be in your bookmark list. Click Mail for Exchange and follow the instructions. You can also go directly to the download page.

How do I configure 'Mail for Exchange' ?

Start the application by selecting its icon. Create a new profile. Enter the e-mail address associated with your Nuevasync account, then your Nuevasync username and password, and some text for the domain (it doesn't matter what this is). The phone will attempt to auto-detect the server name. This will always fail, and if you supplied a GMail e-mail address, it will also give a certificate error. Just click to ignore the error and you should then be able to enter the server address: After the initial configuration e-mail sync will be enabled, while calendar and contacts will be disabled. Use 'options, edit profile' to enable calendar and contacts to suit your needs. Disable e-mail and tasks sync to reduce sync times and data usage. You should now be syncing.

Can I back my phone up before enabling sync?

Yes, Nokia's PC Suite application should be able to back your phone up. We recommend making a backup before enabling our service unless you are confident that there's no valuable data on your phone.

I see 'system error' on my Nokia phone, what's up?

We're not sure. This is a general purpose 'bad stuff happened' device-side error message. A number of the potential causes for this have been identified and fixed, so it is quite rare to see this error these days.

All day events I create at Google look weird on my Nokia phone, why?

There's some disagreement among the devices on how to represent an all-day event. At present they show up as an event lasting literally all day, in the Nokia calendar. This appears to be a limitation of the Noika sync client, see here. An all-day 'memo' event created on the phone will sync correctly as an all day event (but after a Full resync it'll revert to the form mentioned above).

Recurring events don't sync, why ?

They do now, we fixed this problem. Please do a 'Full resync' to get your recurring events if you don't have them already.

Is there other sync client software for Nokia besides MfE?

Yes, some users use RoadSync from DataViz. We haven't tried it and we're not sure if it's better than MfE, but it could be.
